At X from GENERAL INTELLIGENCE PLC, we undertake independent, research-informed analysis of artificial intelligence to support better strategic, technical and institutional decision-making. Research

Our research encompasses the scientific, technical, organisational and strategic dimensions of artificial intelligence. Areas of investigation include both artificial general intelligence and artificial superintelligence, agentic intelligence, foundation models, reasoning models, world models, continual learning, adaptive intelligence, intelligent robotics, edge intelligence, and quantum intelligence, together with artificial intelligence evaluation, safety, alignment, explainability, governance, regulation and responsible deployment.

We also examine the application of artificial intelligence across all sectors of the financial services industry. Particular attention is given to the relationship between technological capability and organisational capability: a new technology creates value only where appropriate data, infrastructure, governance, integration, skills and institutional conditions exist to support it.

Our research methodology is deliberately analytical. We begin each programme with a defined question and establish the relevant evidence before drawing conclusions. We consider sources according to provenance, methodological quality, evidential strength and practical relevance rather than popularity or commercial prominence. Where evidence is incomplete or competing interpretations exist, we identify the uncertainty rather than conceal it. Emerging technologies frequently develop before terminology, evaluation methods or accepted consensus have matured; conceptual clarity and careful comparison are therefore fundamental to our work.

Horizon Scanning

The speed of technological change requires continuous attention to developments that may become strategically significant before they become commercially mature. We undertake horizon scanning across artificial intelligence research, computing infrastructure, computational architectures, software platforms, regulation, standards, governance, cybersecurity and the wider technological ecosystem.

We distinguish between early research, emerging capability and mature operational technology, and consider the evidence, assumptions and uncertainties associated with each. Our purpose is not to forecast the future with artificial precision, but to identify developments sufficiently credible to warrant consideration and determine what, if anything, they should change about present strategic, investment or governance decisions.

Publications

We communicate our research through technical white papers, research reports and strategic briefings intended for senior executives, institutional decision-makers, policymakers, technical specialists and other informed audiences.

We seek to make complex subjects accessible without sacrificing analytical depth. Our publications consider technological capability alongside implementation, governance, regulation, organisational readiness and longer-term implications, providing a basis for informed judgement rather than promotional commentary.

Research also provides an important foundation for our consultancy. The relationship is reciprocal: our independent research informs our advisory work, while practical questions arising from consultancy help identify areas requiring further investigation. This enables us to maintain a perspective informed by both emerging developments and the realities of institutional implementation, without becoming dependent upon any particular vendor, platform or technological methodology.

Commissioned Research

Alongside our independent programmes, we undertake commissioned research where an organisation requires detailed and independent investigation of a specific question. Assignments may address emerging technologies, market developments, regulatory or governance frameworks, sector applications, technology evaluation or longer-term technological scenarios.

We determine the scope and method according to the question rather than a predetermined research product. Depending upon the requirement, our outputs may comprise a research report, strategic assessment, technology evaluation, literature review, briefing paper or executive presentation.

We favour clearly defined questions, proportionate research programmes and conclusions that distinguish what is established, what is probable and what remains uncertain.
